Have you ever eaten paper? I devour books, but that’s as close as it gets.
This past Sunday I had the chance to attend a service at Angelus Temple in Los Angeles. That’s the home church of the Dream Center where my girl will be spending next year. Pastor Matthew Barnett spoke on ‘Comfort Food’ – he had a bunch of food on stage and told the stories behind why these particular foods were comfort foods for him. And then tossed them out to different people in the congregation.
Then he talked about Ezekiel. Who DID eat paper – a scroll of God’s Word. And it was as sweet as honey in his mouth. (Ezekiel 3:1-3). And he talked about Jeremiah, who said, “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight.” (Jeremiah 15:16).
And he pointed to God’s Word as ‘Comfort Food’. As something we should long for, devour, go to when we feel like we need help or comfort. I meal plan, and I read my Bible with a scheduled plan. But it can be something we snack from, too. Reading bits here and there. Looking up answers when we’re feeling lost or confused or angry… (Maybe posting it up around our homes??)
It was a great message that challenged me to think of my Bible in a new light. To think of Scripture as Comfort Food. And so I thought this verse would be an appropriate one for this Friday’s Free Printable. This verse I remember from memorizing at summer camp when I was a kid.
AND – I made it into a bookmark, too! The above print is designed at 5×7, but can easily be scaled to fit your needs. The bookmark is 2×6. I hope you find a good place for it – maybe in your new go-to snack book?
